CHARITIES WE SUPPORT
Hundred For Our Homeless
Visual homelessness is quite literally the ‘tip of the iceberg’. Poverty, homelessness and domestic violence create an uncertain, sometimes dangerous home environment, many South Australian families struggle to provide their kids with the essentials of life; bedding, clothes, toys, even regular meals. Treasure Boxes is dedicated to preventing hardship and trauma by providing kids in need with critical items many of us take for granted. Having seen first-hand what Treasure Boxes do, my humble $100 can directly impact the life of a child.
The causes of Homelessness are as varied as they are challenging. For women, it is primarily due to domestic violence, mental and physical health issues, poverty and a lack of safe, affordable housing. ‘Catherine House’ relies on the support of the community to ensure we can provide women with not only a safe place to stay but a variety of services to support their recovery. Their aim to end the homelessness for every woman who so bravely walks through their doors – for good. They rely on the support of the community and I am only pleased to support their amazing and vital services.
The goal of Hundred For Our Homeless is simply to support those less fortunate. Foodbank is the largest food relief organisation in South Australian, their mission is to end hunger. Foodbank SA provide food relief to over 135,000 struggling South Australians every month. Every time a client chooses FoodBank for the $100 I donate this means 200 meals for those in need.
The concept of Orange Sky, providing free mobile laundry and shower services to people experiencing homelessness, was just amazing to me when I first heard of it. So much so that I have volunteered for Orange Sky. Each and every day a mobile van staffed by volunteers giving their time to help positively connect some of the 116,000 Australians doing it tough. In knowing the humanity creating a safe, positive and supportive environment for people who are too often ignored or feel disconnected from the community, needs support.
Hutt St Centre believes in a society that provides all humans no matter their race, status, or conditions, equal opportunities in order to live a full life. In wanting ‘Hundred For Our Homeless’ to direct support South Australia’s homeless, supporting a place of hope and opportunity, helping people facing homelessness to rebuild their lives, without judgement is an honour. They serve up to 40,000 meals and offer social work and support services to nearly 2,000 people annually.
